Pixar short films area great way to introduce and teach a range of topics. They carry underlying messages, and in this film about a young Sandpiper we see ideas around bravery, creativity, persistence and how birds live at the beach with searching for food, living as a flock and interacting with other creatures. Pixar short films are a great way to introduce and teach a range of topics. They carry underlying messages and in this film a young boy must follow in his father’s footsteps to work on keeping the moon shining brightly each night. There are opportunities to use this activity in conjunction with a unit on space, solar system, family and tradition. It would complement topics with science and nature, history of space travel, society (myths and legends around space) and creative arts with the symbology of the moon. There is a range of fun literacy activity which are highly visual to cater for all learning needs. This includes Including cloze passage comprehension, first to last order, crossword, visual pictures to assist this style of learning, short sentence writing and the ability to add and remove sections that suit the needs of your students. In addition, there is an extension activity for students who need additional work.

Remember the Titans - Scaffolded worksheets

This packet of information is designed to be used with the film ‘Remember The Titans’. Some of the sheets do tie into a unit on Conflict and Conflict resolution that the film was used for. This film highlights many issues faced in Virginia that students can identify as conflict. The worksheets as part of this pack are all related to the movie and include: A Venn diagram, a cut and paste match up of characters, a PowerPoint with links on youtube and a question and answer written worksheet about conflict. Comprehension questions on one of the monologues from the film and plenty of visuals. One of the sheets is suitable for a lower ability student (disability). This is good for differentiation.

The Witches - Roald Dahl - Novel Study Presentation

This presentation (Powerpoint) covers a HUGE range of learning areas that are available in the novel The Witches by Roald Dahl. Starting with the history of witches and going through the book itself, author, publisher. We then delve into the characters that are in this story (of which there are plenty). Then we explore Settings, what they are and the different settings that are portrayed throughout the story. In every story, there are conventions that the author uses and this is no different in The Witches, There is Exposition, Rising action, climax and then Resolution. Each of these areas is explored in detail. Plot and Theme are also touched on. This presentation was used over the course of a term as students read through the novel, it was accompanied by worksheets that were generic but could change with the different content in the presentation. i.e. when looking at settings the questions were similar but a different setting was explored each lesson. You could take the bits you need or use it as a whole presentation. A fabulous resource when teaching this novel. P.s - There are some pictures with eyes and a man looking over his shoulder in the upper left of some slides. These are there to remind students to look back through the book at something they have already discussed, or look into something with more detail.

This film has inspired many students and is a regular at schools everywhere as it contains fantastic themes of social and racial prejudice, sportsmanship, teenage pregnancy, commitment and respect. I wanted to make watching this film more educational for my students so I have developed a 10-page printable booklet to complete while watching the film. Ready to print and distribute. No more work needed!! It is a highly visual activity with screenshots from the film to help students identify where they are up to, and what is happening. More importantly, I have tried to connect this true story to students own lives with some moral questions as well. There is some vocabulary, creative writing and inference tasks included. There are a couple of low ability options for students who may have intellectual delays so that they may still complete this task and be involved. This task can be completed in one sitting or spread out over several lessons. I have used it both ways and they have worked very well.

This is a short workbook to accompany the Pixar short film - Partly Cloudy. I have used this to accompany a unit of work on animals as it allows students to have a look at a range of young animals. In addition it is based on a German folklore story about storks delivering babies and can be used for fictional story writing. The students love this film and it is short, but entertaining eliciting good discussion in the class.

War Horse Study Pack

I have created a short booklet that breaks the film of War Horse into 20 minute blocks. Each twenty minutes has a sheet to go with it and they are arranged sequentially in a booklet. Each section of the film students are asked to identify any new characters, settings and the story so far… There are also 3 visual questions about the section of the film. My students found this to be very helpful in following the storyline, and understanding the sequence of the film. The second item in this pack is a powerpoint that looks at the novel of war horse. It breaks down setting, characters, plot and theme. There are some embedded activities but it is a wonderful resource to have as an accompaniment to the film.

If you love using Pixar films in your lessons as much as I do, then you will appreciate having this workbook at your fingertips for students to use. It is designed with maximum pictures and short sharp activities and questions to keep students of different abilities engaged. There are some deeper principles in this film that you can explore further after using this booklet. Additionally, if you are introducing Chess to your class then this is a fun way to show them some of the pieces, rules, and fun that can be had. You won’t be disappointed with this task and if my students are anything to go by, yours will love it too!!

This coming of age film is based on real events that took place in a California juvenile detention centre. Starring The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) this film is engaging and entertaining (i have found it particularly useful in engaging boys in literacy tasks). I have developed this booklet to be used in conjunction with watching the film. It contains a wide variety of tasks that can be modified if you wish to suit the needs fo individual students or a whole class. Including crossword, labelling tasks, many high detailed pictures taken directly from the film, cloze passage tasks and a combination of response options to suit all learning needs.
